چکیده

The study of surface metrology is becoming more and more commonplace in industrial and research environments. Because of this expansion there are more and more technologies available for looking at the surface and each has its own applications. Stylus profilometry, white light interferometry and confocal microscopy are common techniques used to measure surface metrology. Strengths and weaknesses of each of the techniques are discussed with examples. The use of scanning probe techniques as metrology tools is also briefly discussed.

Metrology of Microfluidic Devices: A Review

The promise of miniaturization of large-scale laboratories to the size of a chip has attracted the attention of biologists and manufacturing engineers alike. The mass production of functional microfluidic devices assembled on small-scale chips necessitates the accurate measurement of feature sizes and other properties as part of the manufacturing process. This paper presents a review of metrolo...

Process Mapping and Functional Correlation in Surface Metrology: A Novel Clustering Application

Surface finish of engineering components is measured and controlled to achieve a desired function. Surface finish can also be used to provide feedback to the manufacturing process. An area of active research in surface metrology is in developing tools and techniques for providing greater insight into the relationship between surface texture, a component’s function and the manufacturing process....

Applications of Morphological Operations in Surface Metrology and Dimensional Metrology

In contrast to the widely used mean-line based evaluation techniques, the capabilities of morphological methods are not fully recognized in practice. Morphological operations, e.g. dilation, erosion, closing and opening, are useful tools in surface metrology and dimensional metrology. This paper presents a variety of novel applications of morphological operations in association with several of ...

Review of the mathematical foundations of data fusion techniques in surface metrology

The recent proliferation of engineered surfaces, including freeform and structured surfaces, is challenging current metrology techniques. Measurement using multiple sensors has been proposed to achieve enhanced benefits, mainly in terms of spatial frequency bandwidth, which a single sensor cannot provide. When using data from different sensors, a process of data fusion is required and there is ...

Paradigm shifts in surface metrology . Part I . Historical philosophy

Surface texture and its measurement are becoming the most critical factors and important functionality indicators in the performance of high precision and nanoscale devices and components. Surface metrology as a discipline is currently undergoing a huge paradigm shift: from profile to areal characterization, from stochastic to structured surfaces, and from simple geometries to complex free-form...
